ChromeOS Dock Compatibility Still Needs a Model Check
Plugable explains that many of its DisplayLink docks can provide additional screens on ChromeOS without a separate driver installation. The operating system includes DisplayLink support, but Plugable still requires checking the individual product's listed operating systems. Chipset technology alone is not the entire compatibility decision.

For supported products, keep ChromeOS on the current Stable channel and follow Plugable's version recommendation. Connect through a host port suitable for the dock's requirements. This makes a useful deployment checklist for Chromebook workspaces where administrators might otherwise assume that built-in driver support removes every product-specific setup consideration.
DisplayLink support in the operating system does not make every DisplayLink product supported.
